Course Description

In the Bathroom Design Course, students learn how to craft bathrooms that achieve both functionality and aesthetics. Over the course of 9 weeks, students will study layouts that are ergonomic and efficient, implement materials that are practical and attractive, specify fixtures that are sustainable and impactful, and consider design solutions that enhance accessibility and the user experience. The course will have a primary focus on residential spaces, and will culminate with a portfolio-ready bathroom project.

  • Learn interior design principles specific to residential bathrooms
  • Analyze various bathroom layouts for space efficiency, accessibility, achievability, and overall user comfort
  • Become familiar with materials, finishes, and fixtures that offer both durability, sustainable solutions, and aesthetic appeal
  • Implement effective lighting strategies to enhance functionality, energy usage, and ambiance
  • Understand universal design principles and accessibility requirements for inclusive bathroom spaces
  • Cultivate communication skills for collaborating with clients, vendors, and contractors
  • Understand the steps and methodologies required to design and propose a buildable bathroom, from initial client consult through the design development phases and project pricing
  • Develop a comprehensive bathroom design project that can be added to your portfolio

Prerequisites

Hand-drafting or computer drafting skills (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, or equivalent)
