Course Description

You will learn and understand the essentials of fashion buying in the fashion industry that involves selecting, purchasing, and managing merchandise for retail stores, e-commerce platforms, or other fashion businesses including pop up shops and live stream shopping. This course provides an introduction to the field, covering topics such as product selection, trend analysis, vendor negotiation, and retail math.

  • The planning process: forecasting and buying plans
  • How to calculate initial to cumulative markup (from wholesale and direct to consumer pricing)

  • An understanding sell-through analysis
  • How retail buyers perform budget analysis, negotiate pricing and markdown money. 
  • Buyer and vendor relationships and why this is important
  • Relationships between buyers and multiline showrooms
  • Develop basic understanding of retail math.
  • Learn about gross margin and how it affects profitability
