Course Description

This class provides graduate and undergraduate students as well as continuing education professionals the knowledge needed to understand the United Nations system, and the skills required to prepare for a career in international affairs. Unlike traditional approaches to study of the organization, this class goes beyond the usual heavy focus on peace and security to include deep treatments of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and environmental and reform issues. Further, it also fundamentally incorporates thematic angles such as race, gender, culture, and other drivers of inequalities that are woven into the structures of global governance. The coursework prepares you to analyze and engage with contemporary issues, policies, and debates in international affairs.
