Course Description

DJs bring parties, from festivals to living rooms, to life! You will become familiar with or deepen your existing understanding of the DJ craft, hone beatmatching & mixing skills, learn the basics of turntablism, choose your preferred equipment setup, learn the fundamental musical elements and structure of a track, understand how social dynamics intersect with music, and develop an understanding of business and promotion. You will create a demo mix and digital promotional material to share with friends and family. You’ll also become familiar with the basics of producing electronic music using Ableton Live. This class will include a visit to a NYC nightclub and guest speakers from the music industry. Students must be 16 by July 5, 2020 to participate.
