Course Description
Learn basic draping, flat patternmaking, and sewing techniques, along with principles of design. Topics covered include three-dimensional muslin interpretation of skirts and bodices, developing slopers, and constructing a garment. Bring to the first class a #2 pencil, pins, paper scissors, and one yard of lightweight muslin.
Course Length - Online 9 weeks, On Campus 12 weeks (6 weeks in summer)

Learner Outcomes
- Draping, trueing, pinning basic bodice and skirt, developing a sloper.
- Draping cowl neck bodice and flared skirt.
- Dart manipulation of eight dart positions using slash and spread and pivot methods.
- Developing original design using flat patternmaking method.
- Fabric layout, pinning marking and cutting of original design.
- Hand sewing, machine sewing and finishing techniques to complete design.

Benefits:
- Become familiar with all tools and materials needed to drape muslin patterns, make flat patterns and construct garments.
- Drape a basic bodice, skirt, cowl neck bodice and flared skirt ,as well as create flat patterns using a sloper.
- Become familiar with various fabric types and sewing supplies needed to produce a garment.
- Use proper techniques to layout, cut, and construct an original garment.
- Relate the knowledge and skills obtained in class to other draping, flat patternmaking and sewing projects.
