Course Description

In this course, designed for architectural, interior, and product designers, you learn basic including drawing, editing, dimensioning, output, and presentation. Gain a practical understanding of AutoCAD's relevance to professional practice. Take a project from sketch development and produce professional drawings. Prerequisites: basic drafting skills and familiarity with Windows/PC operating system. Note: This course is taught from a Windows operation system, however, Mac equivalencies are provided. AutoCAD software will not be included in the tuition purchase; students must obtain AutoCAD on their own and can utilize our Software Benefits page for educational discounts and opportunities.

Course Length - Online 9 weeks

Learner Outcomes

  • How to set up a drawing, units and layers
  • The interface: commands, preferences, osnap and coordinates
  • The Drawing entities and navigation: lines, polylines, circles, rectangles, ellipse, arc, pan and zoom
  • How to edit in AutoCad: erase, trim, extend, copy, move, offset, array, mirror, stretch, scale, break and fillet
  • Layout tabs, paper and model space, page set up and printing
  • Blocks and block management: creating blocks with block make and w-block, copy/paste, and editing blocks, design center, and tool pallets
  • Text and dimensions: annotative scaling, text styles, multiline text, editing text
  • Creation of dimensioning styles and dimensions tools
  • Drawing management: layer standards, management and hatches
  • Creating and editing attributed blocks
  • Creating drawing templates and file management of blocks, templates and drawings
  • Creation of a drawing that links to other drawings
