Course Description

This course is an introduction to hospitality interior design for guest rooms. Students will learn how to space plan and design for a diverse set of guest room types. In this course, students build upon their hospitality education by designing a hotel suite project. Topics explore the guest experience including guest room design and vocabulary, guest room types, guest psychology, technology, private dining, remote working, and personal wellness. Discover hotel guest room standards for space planning, materials, furnishings, and lighting. Prerequisites: Introduction to Hospitality Interior Design, or the equivalent. 

Course Length - Online 5 weeks

Learner Outcomes

  • Overview of guest experience design including key vocabulary, current industry trends, and forecast
  • Review a variety of guest room types, guest psychology, and guest demographics
  • Learn the process of designing a hotel guest room including the model room process and ADA guest rooms
  • Create a research-based guest room suite concept based upon guest demographic and location
  • Design a guest room suite presentation including custom-made millwork and furnishings, artwork, and accessories
  • Learn best practices for specifying softgoods and hardgoods for guest rooms and how the procurement process works
