Course Description

This course introduces students to a range of printmaking processes. Students explore graphics, color theory, drawing, design, and composition. Through a series of assignments exploring both representational and conceptual art, students create portfolio-quality prints using professional techniques. The class covers etching, drypoint, monotype, screen printing, and less conventional printmaking techniques. 

Learner Outcomes

  • Acquire beginning level skill-sets in the printmaking media, including etching, drypoint, monotype, screen printing , and other related media.
  • Research and recognize historical precedents regarding print and printmaking
  • Draw connections between the culture of printmaking with content and form
  • Develop a facility for exploring concepts in visual work
  • Demonstrate competence in creating work that is engaged from within and inspired by the world around them
  • Produce work in print media suitable for inclusion in one's portfolio
  • Critique peer work, with a focus on evaluating and giving feedback on work in progress
  • Lead with confidence a critique of one’s own work, including framing questions for feedback
