Course Description

This course explores the purpose and experience of leadership at the individual, team, and organizational levels and demystifies it. It introduces the concept, practice, and measurement of emotional intelligence, and helps students develop the self-awareness and resilience needed to contribute and succeed in a rapidly changing society. We will consider leaders' roles in shaping their groups' goals, norms, and strategies to promote improvement and justice in their spheres of influence. Course materials include readings and digital media. Teaching methods are based in experience, including self-assessment, reflection, and team-based activities with opportunities for immediate application. Note for Spring 2022: Section A (CRN 9145) will meet on campus at the designated day and time. Section B (CRN 11501) uses a blended schedule of asynchronous activities and required synchronous discussion sessions via video conference. Class meets online at the designated date and time. Asynchronous meetings will take place the weeks of 2/8, 3/1, 3/29, 4/18; some with exercises to schedule at the team's mutual convenience.
