Course Description

Make movies that make a difference. Combining 16mm filmmaking craft with high definition (HD) digital techniques and tools, this course immerses students in the history and practice of making movies. Students learn to communicate through the unique language of cinema and how to leverage its power to question, provoke, educate, delight, amaze, and change. Students work collaboratively to create meaningful and artful short film projects that will be showcased publicly by the end of the course.

  • Experience creating a technically accomplished short film
  • Understanding of the impact of movies on society and their relationship to contemporary forms of citizenship
  • Knowledge of the communicative language of cinema and its expressive techniques
  • Appreciation of the modes of filmic expression beyond the conventional scripted narrative
