Course Description
This course is for students who are passionate about developing their unique artistic voice. Students will explore the craft of songwriting through focused study in lyric writing, vocal technique, music theory, music history, and digital audio production. Students will engage in songwriting sessions both as an individual and in a group setting. They will also get the opportunity to work and learn at Invite Only Studios, a state of the art professional recording facility that has been home to many renowned recording artists. Students will walk away with a fully produced demo of an original song, recorded at Invite Only Studios.This intensive provides an immersive experience for aspiring singer-songwriters looking to refine their skills and gain real-world music industry experience.
The program is open to all students who meet the age requirements, complete the application, and demonstrate interest and proficiency in songwriting.
Audition Requirement: Submit a link to either an audio or video of up to two original songs no longer than three (3) minutes and a link to a live performance that is no longer than two (2) minutes. (The live video does not have to be professional quality and can be recorded on a phone)
Learner Outcomes
- Strengthen vocal technique through applied exercises and performance coaching
- Develop beginner proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs) for recording, editing, and producing original music
- Explore key concepts in music theory and music history to inform creative decisions and contextualize songwriting within broader musical traditions
- Complete a professional-quality demo recording of an original song in collaboration with faculty and fellow students
- Participate in an immersive studio experience and gain insight into the collaborative and technical aspects of music production
- Develop critical listening and feedback skills through workshops, peer review, and group discussions
