Course Description
Owing to the social distancing efforts to contain the COVID-19 virus, this online production course has been created to provide students with the skills and creative guidance to express their ideas through the most accessible of means. Three modes of production will be taught concurrently, utilizing what equipment students have available: The use of an HD digital video camera, HD video shot with a DSLR, or HD video shot with a smartphone. Post-production will also take three parallel pathways to completion of student projects: The use of Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or cloud-based video editing software, as determined by the processing abilities of students’ personal computers. Students will produce digital video projects that explore a space, record a video diary, conduct an interview, and shoot a dialogue-based project. Work of an array of artists will be viewed, highlighting the creative approaches of the do-it-yourself videomaker and filmmaker over the history of the moving image medium. Some modest expenses will be incurred by students for supplemental equipment, such as an external harddrive for editing, a smartphone tripod mount, an inexpensive lightweight tripod, and other production accessories. Students are expected to provide for their own use of a video-capable camera or smartphone and a personal computer.Learner Outcomes
