Course Description

Explore the possibilities of self-expression in jewelry by making a riveted ring. This one-week intensive will cover the necessary knowledge of non-ferrous metal and basic fabrication techniques such as cutting, drilling, filing, riveting and more (excluding heat work). Students will be introduced to the process of ring making from start to finish. Students will be encouraged to think out of the box and to incorporate non-metal components into their design. The final project will be at least one finished riveted ring.

Jewelry is one of the oldest types of archaeological artifacts. In most cultures, jewelry can be understood as a status symbol, for its material properties, its patterns or for specific cultural symbols. In modern society, contemporary jewelry has been developed as a unique form of self-expression and communication. This intensive is a one-week introduction to jewelry making and design.
