Course Description

College and post-college students explore potentials of industrial design. Students are immersed in the development of design schemes for a complex site in New York City. They design product concepts which refine skills in product-design sketching, drafting, modeling, and using digital 2D and 3D design tools to create a portfolio project project of a caliber that can be used to apply to Parsons’ MFA Industrial Design, and other competitive graduate programs. The course includes sections titled “Design Studio,” “Digital and Analog Techniques,” and “Studies in the City”, which bring students together to work in teams and individually with faculty members. Demonstrations are given of various tools related to project work, including ones for hand rendering concepts as well as rapid prototyping output.
