Course Description

How do people grow and change through life, from conception to death? This course introduces the field of human developmental psychology. Topics addressed include the characteristics and capacities of the human infant, infant-parent attachment and interaction, cognitive development, control of emotions, social cognition, family and peer relationships, moral development, and aging. We consider both biological and cultural influences and explore controversial issues in the field of lifespan developmental psychology. Students learn about the research methods developmental psychologists use to ask and answer questions about change and stability across the course of an individual's life.
