Course Description

Personality can be understood through a variety of theoretical perspectives, including psychoanalytic, trait-based, biological, behavioral, cognitive, and humanistic approaches. This course provides a survey of these perspectives and their supporting research and introduces various approaches to the assessment of personality in clinical and organizational settings. The class also examines personality disorders, including their conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment.

  • Knowledge of objective and projective approaches to personality assessment
  • DSM-V and other conceptual approaches to understanding personality disorders
  • Approaches to treating personality disorder
