Intensive Daylighting Design Studio

Course Description

The Parsons Summer Intensive Daylighting Design Studio can be taken as a stand-alone course, as a follow-up to previous experience in the Parsons Summer Intensive Lighting Design Studio, or consecutively with the Parsons Summer Intensive Lighting Design Studio (for a total of two weeks of study). This intensive extends the analysis of the design project sited in New York to the exploration of daylight availability, fenestration opportunities, and the overall quality of daylighting through physical modeling. Working with the full-time faculty in the MFA Lighting Design program, students learn to use the light lab's heliodon and diffuse sky simulator and master analytical techniques. The emphasis of the intensive is on the quality of daylight and its interaction with electric light and lighting controls. As with the Parsons Summer Intensive Lighting Design Studio, the Parsons Summer Intensive Daylighting Design Studio is available both in person and virtually in 2021.
