Five Skills You Can Learn in Parsons Summer Intensive Studies

With our Summer Intensive Studies pre-college program, experience the creative inspiration from our world-class Parsons faculty. Our artistically stimulating online or on-campus intensives are designed to teach high-schoolers a variety of skills to prepare for college applications. Courses include project-based learning, art and design field trips, guest speakers from industry, and portfolio reviews. Below are a few examples of skills you can learn taking our courses.

Drawing and Observation

Make better visual decisions by using different drawing materials in our Explorations in Drawing (On-Campus) class. Gain analytical skills through direct observation of studio setups as well as visits to museums and outdoor spaces throughout New York City.

Designing Visual Narratives and Photography Styles

Curate a cohesive body of design work that supports a visual narrative with our Photography/Video (Online) class. Become fluent in the fundamentals of primary and secondary design research, image archiving and observational writing, principles of art and design in photography and time-based mediums, documentary and fine art styles, and more.

Creating Stop-Motion Graphics

Experiment with everything from hand-drawn to digital animation studies and learn to create stop-motion animation with 3D objects with our Animation (Online) class.

Exploring Color, Type, and Layout

Use collected research to inform the visual development of a drawing, painting graphic, and animation with Illustration: Beyond the Page (On-Campus). Develop a conceptual and applied understanding of visual elements such as image and composition. Hone your drawing skills and your sense of color, typography, and layout.

Preparing a Portfolio and Research Documentation

Prepare for college applications by maintaining analog and/or digital process journals/sketchbooks documenting research, ideation studies, resolved art/designs, commentary, and self-reflection with Portfolio Development: College Prep (Online).
