Instructors from our Illustrated Journalism and Memoir Certificate recently opened up about their professional background, which includes contributing to high-profile publications such as The New Yorker and The Atlantic. This hands-on certificate guides students on how to express themselves through comics journalism, documentary sketching, and illustrated memoir. Sessions are led by expert faculty members who are working in the field themselves.
Jason Das has worked for publications including The Atlantic, National Geographic, and Teen Vogue. He describes the certificate courses as "somewhere in between a journalism class, a sketching class, an expressive writing class, and a cartooning class. There will be a lot of prompts, including diary and journal exercises, to help you reflect and perceive life in different and new ways. Everyone has an interesting story and perspective."
Liana Finck is one of our newest faculty members. "Lately, I'm most interested in helping students figure out the right style--way of drawing, way of writing, use of panels or not, length--to bring out the stories that are already inside you," said Finck, whose illustrations have appeared in The New Yorker. Her course Telling Your Story: First-Person Illustrated Journalism and Memoir starts June 6.
