New School students wearing face masks

Continuing and Professional Education at The New School has reinstated on-campus teaching and learning while upholding COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Because of continued community commitment, the infection rate on campus is near the lowest it has ever been and compliance with our booster requirement is strong. Check out The New School COVID policy, which includes mask and vaccination requirements, for more detailed information.

Access to Campus

Continuing & Professional Education and Parsons Academy students should familiarize themselves with the following guidelines before accessing campus.

  1. Vaccination Requirement - Upload proof of vaccination, including the booster shot, to The New School’s Student Health Services (SHS) online portal (log in with your NetID and password)
    • Please look up your NetID on The New School's Account Services page. You may also set or change your password on the Account Services page.
  2. Testing Requirement - As of February 28, 2022, students who are fully vaccinated are no longer required to get tested every 14 days. Visit the Testing page to learn more about testing requirements.
  3. Masking Requirement - Masks are required inside New School buildings and classrooms at all times.
  4. Photo ID Card - Submit a passport-style photo to the Card Services Online Portal. Carry the New School photo ID card for building entry and other services; mobile phone to display clearance status for building entry.

Health and Safety

The filtration for all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units has been increased to the highest level MERV rating, based on system design specifications.

We are closely following the evolving guidance from public health agencies and industry associations including the CDC, NYC Test and Trace and other government agencies, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Additionally, we are in frequent collaboration with the NYC Colleges and Universities COVID Coordination Council to share best practices, resources, and public health guidance.

Enhanced Cleaning Protocols

The university’s safety and sanitization protocols for the fall semester include nightly cleaning, disinfecting, and ventilation of all on-campus spaces.

  • Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipe dispensers are installed in every building lobby and elevator lobbies on all floors, as well as near offices, classrooms, research and making facilities, and computer labs.
  • EPA and CDC approved disinfectants, ultraviolet light, and/or SteraMist™ technology are used to clean and sanitize surfaces.
  • High touch surfaces are cleaned throughout the day, and heightened sanitization occurs during overnight cleaning.
  • Where feasible, touchless equipment has been installed.

More FAQs

Will students who are not yet 18 years old be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19?

All students who are eligible to receive a vaccination are required to be fully vaccinated. In New York, people aged 12 and older are eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. To check eligibility in other states, please see your state health department website.

Will the vaccine requirement apply to non-credit students?

Yes. Non-credit students age 12 and older will be required to be vaccinated in order to access campus buildings and services.

Will the university help undocumented students access the COVID-19 vaccine?

Yes. In line with federal government guidelines, regardless of immigration or health insurance status, all individuals are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at no cost. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection will not conduct enforcement operations at or near vaccine distribution sites or clinics. Students who are undocumented or hold DACA status are a significant and valued part of our community, and we will do everything possible to ensure they have the access and support they need, and that their privacy is maintained. If you are undocumented and concerned about accessing the vaccine, please contact Student Support.

Which COVID-19 vaccines is the university accepting? Will the university accept vaccines that are not yet approved in the U.S.?

We strongly encourage students who have access to vaccines approved in their home countries to get vaccinated as quickly as they can. In line with CDC guidance, vaccines authorized by the U.S. FDA or WHO will be accepted by The New School.

What are the university's current vaccination rates?

Check out The New School’s Data Dashboard for up-to-date vaccination rates and testing results of New School students, faculty, and staff on campus. The sheet is updated weekly.
