About This Program

In this intensive, week-long experience presented by the New School College of Performing Arts, students will have the opportunity to learn, rehearse, and perform alongside Sandbox Percussion through daily rehearsals, coaching, and workshops. Students will be divided into multiple chamber groups, each consisting of one member of Sandbox Percussion and 2-4 participants. These groups vigorously rehearse a concentrated selection of repertoire for several hours each day, learning and experiencing first-hand how the members of Sandbox Percussion prepare repertoire for performance. Each chamber group presents their piece in a culminating marathon public performance for the entire Summer Seminar community at the conclusion of the week.

Students will also attend evening master classes and lectures with Sandbox Percussion to learn about both the creative and administrative aspects of running a successful chamber music ensemble. Each day, a guest artist will present a class on their art and their career path. This year, we will be joined by composer Amy Beth Kirsten, cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, and choreographer Francesca Harper.

Please note that students must be at least 18 years of age by June 1, 2023, in order to participate in the Summer Seminar.
