Course Description

Scenarios are “organized ways for us to dream effectively” - Peter Schwartz In this course, students will build on their foundational knowledge gained in Design Futures 101, and focus specifically on scenario planning and immersive materialization. The course will lead students through construction of contextually relevant scenarios that take into account the objectives of communities, organizations or industries. The course will focus on steps for establishing these scenarios as valuable guides for discussion on future pathways. The course will examine approaches for integrating design capacities to deliver scenarios that are impactful and immersive sensory experiences. Students will create projections of desirable and undesirable future characteristics in scenarios as discursive elements, and will examine ways that futures discourse can impact paths forward.
